SUMMER

Upper Arlington Girls Soccer does not have a formalized summer training program. Players are typically on their own to improve their strength, conditioning and mental preparation during the off-season. However, the Ohio High School Athletic Association has revised its rules in the wake of COVID-19 to allow fall sports to begin optional individual skills training and conditioning on June 1 this year.

 

With that opportunity available, UAGS will offer fundamental and skill-based training on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning June 2 from 5:00-6:30 PM at Tremont Turf Field. Training will be overseen by the coaching staff with specific rules and guidelines in place. Social distancing will be strictly observed during these sessions, along with any additional guidelines provided by the Ohio Department of Health. Saturday morning speed work will begin June 20 at 8:30 AM at either the Hastings or Jones Middle School track. That training will transition to the high school track once construction there is complete.

The strength and conditioning program will focus on basic movements to start and build gradually over the summer to accommodate first-time lifters. These sessions will be reserved for UAGS players and staff only, with proper protocols in place to ensure the highest level of safety for all involved. Girls soccer’s 45-minute sessions are Mondays and Wednesdays at 12:00 noon. Beginning the week of July 13, sessions will be reduced to once a week on Mondays. Players should not arrive more than 5 minutes before the start of each session and must leave immediately afterward so the weight room can be thoroughly cleaned and prepared for the next group.

Before players can participate in any of these sessions, a parent or guardian must review and sign this waiver form and have their player provide it to the head coach. All coaches and players will also be required to complete a symptom self-check before taking part in any session. Players should not attend training or conditioning if they are not feeling well or are experiencing any COVID-19-related symptoms, including cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, chills, shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and/or loss of taste or smell. When in doubt, STAY HOME. 

 

Once again, these sessions are entirely optional. Players will not be penalized in any way for choosing not to participate.

 

In addition to or in lieu of these training opportunities, the head coach has prepared a recommended off-season workout plan that players can follow on their own, in teams, or in groups. The team's strength and conditioning coach has also designed a four-week bodyweight program to supplement that plan, which he demonstrates here

 

The program will host a Team Evaluation Camp in July. All girls who are interested in playing for the high school are strongly encouraged to attend. The camp takes place over 10 days prior to tryouts and serves as the launching point for the season. The camp is run by the head coach with the goal of preparing players for tryouts and the season.
